Nature and Wildlife Photography

Suomen luonto

Landscapes, wildlife, plants, and close-ups of natural scenes and textures

I have been doing nature photography for many years. This niche has been vital to me since childhood. I also accept assignments from private individuals, companies and authorities. So, if you're looking for one with the talent to survive prolonged periods in the wilderness, you've come to the right site.

Suomen luonto

    What photographers don't tell

As photographers, we aim to get as close as possible to the subjects. Not everyone can afford expensive long lenses. The secret is in the food. For many bird species, I carry nuts, raisins and pine nuts. Tasty food helps you to make new friends and get lovely photos.

    Give your time

Then it would be best if you also had something we have very little of. Plenty of time. It takes time before the wild animals start to trust you. The birds you see in the pictures require me to visit them daily for a week..

    Waiting for the shot

In Finland, everyone can roam and camp overnight almost anywhere in the country. The camp in the picture is on state land, and I applied for a permit before setting it up. I was in the archipelago to shoot a photo for the Finnish lighthouse society. I waited five days on the islet to get the picture I wanted.

    Where to start?

Where to start? This a good question that many people ask themselves. I started practising photographing different species of animals at the zoo in Helsinki. The owl you see in the picture was taken there. It's nothing to be ashamed of, but always remember to tell the truth.

How do I find good destinations?

How do I find good destinations? As for weather and light conditions, I have significantly benefited from the software: Google Maps, Aurora Pro and PhotoPills. The northern lights in the photo I took in the middle of the night. That night Auroras was visible here in Kotka for ten minutes, and the Aurora Pro app shoved the right time to go out.

    Macro Photography

Macro photography is a rewarding genre of photography. Here it also pays to give time. The best time for me has been early spring or late fall. In the summer, the insects are so hyperactive that keeping up with the swings can sometimes be challenging.
